Mr. Jimmie J. Ellison, 82, of Portales, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales,

He was born on Nov. 2, 1920, in Erath County, Texas, to Myrtle and Albert E. Ellison.

His family moved to Portales in 1934. He graduated from Portales High School in 1940, where he was an outstanding athlete. After high school he went to work for the telephone company. In 1942, he joined the US Navy and served in the Sea Bees for 4 years. He married Oneida Roberts on Oct. 5, 1945. He retired from the telephone company in 1986 after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Third and Kilgore Congregation of the Church of Christ and the Portales Lion’s Club. Family members said for a number of years, he and several friends made annual fishing trips to Mexico.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arlie Ellison; and four sisters, Loreta Russell, Anthy Lane, ODeal Thompson and Maurice Jones.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary Ellison of Portales; a daughter, Jana Osborn (and husband, Wayne) of Lovington; four grandchildren, Stacee Bulman (Jon), Shalee and Shanna Osborn and Ira Ellison; a great-grandchild, Addison Osborn; a sister, Eva Gay Carter of Pampa, Texas; and two brothers, L.V. “Blacky” Ellison of Monahans, Texas and Bobby Jack Ellison of Galveston, Texas.

David Bennett and Johnny Lieb will officiate the services. Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donnie, Ronnie, Monte, Alan and Billy Roberts, Glen and Eddie Keith Morris and Jimmie Louis Ellison. Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
