Mr. John O. Howard Jr., 85, of Amarillo, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, in Amarillo.

He was born on April 28, 1918, in Greenfield, Mo.

He moved to Clovis when he was 6 months old. He went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad in 1936 and served from 1941 until 1945 with the Headquarters Squadron 45th Air Depot Group of the U.S. Army. He returned to work with the railroad and retired after 43 years of service. He married Ruth McDonald on June 1, 1946. Family members said he was an avid golfer and bowler. He and his wife traveled with the Good Sam’s Club of Clovis for many years.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Johnny Howard (and wife, Katie) of Carrollton, Texas, and Robert “Bobby” Howard (Debby) of Amarillo; four grandchildren, Jonathan Howard of Carrollton, Texas, Tisha Nicewarner of Waco, Texas, and Sarah Smoot (Will) and Emily Howard (Jon Revette), all of Amarillo; and eight great-grandchildren, Calvin, Madeline and Jackson Smoot and Isaac and Solomon Revette, all of Amarillo and Angel, James and Imani of Waco, Texas.

Cremation has taken place.

Jon Forrest will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist/St. Anthony’s Hospital, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, Texas 79176.

A second memorial service will be held at 9:30 a.m. (CDT) Sunday at Buchanan Street United Methodist Church in Amarillo with Bill Wade officiating.
