Betty McCarson, 69, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at her home in Portales.

Mrs. McCarson was born on June 30, 1934, in Lamesa, Texas, to Genevive and Russell Hardisty. Her family moved to Portales when she was small. She graduated from Portales High School in 1952 and married Joe McCarson on Nov. 18, 1954. The family lived in Farmington from 1977 to 1996, but moved back to Portales when Mr. McCarson retired. Family members said Mrs. McCarson was a devoted wife and mother. She also was an avid bingo player and loved to go to garage sales, often accompanied by her sister and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband; sons Gary McCarson (wife Margaret) McCarson of Chesapeake, Va.; Frank McCarson (Tina) of Elko, Nev.; and Brad McCarson (Donia) of Taos; and daughters Vicki Wethington (Monty) of Aztec; and Judy Logan (Bobby) of Farmington. She is also survived by a brother, Russell Hardisty of Elko, Nev.; and sisters Doris Blalock and Sandra Bedinger, both of Portales; and eight grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Gary McCarson, Frank McCarson, Brad McCarson, Richard Blalock, Brett Bedinger and Monty Wethington.

Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Winston Berry and Rev. Clyde Davis.

Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials to the local hospice.
