Frank Davis, 38

Frank Davis, 38, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, as the result of a boating incident on Ute Lake.

Mr. Davis was born Sept. 30, 1964, in Portales, to Billie Lou and James E. Davis. When he was 14, in the seventh grade, he dropped out of school to begin working in the oil fields. He worked as a driller and derrick hand until 1986 when he and his father started Davis Pump Company in Portales. They worked together until his father’s death in 1996.

After his father’s death, Mr. Davis saw to his mother’s needs until her death in May 2002.

In October 2001, Mr. Davis purchased a Harley Davidson motorcycle autographed by many celebrities that was auctioned to benefit the families of the 9-11 attack victims. Friends and family said this charitable act was typical of him.

Mr. Davis is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Crystal Davis-Lay and her husband, Jason Lay, and Lacey Davis of Portales; a grandson, Jaden James Davis-Lay; his partner Yvonne Milligan of Portales; his former wife and the mother of his children, Donna Davis of Portales; a step-son, Chad Milligan of Portales; four brothers, Willie Dale Davis of Portales, Sheridan Glen Davis of Tallahassee, Fla., James Edward Davis of Canyon City, Colo., and Jimmy Park of Portales; two sisters, Maudie Frances Morino of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Eva Lynn Smith of Bent; and several nieces and nephews.

Rev. James Terry, with Crystal Davis-Lay and Lynn Smith, will officiate services.

Pallbearers will be Terry Kaser, Phil Douma, Henry Ruiz, Kenneth Knight, Jason Lay and Mike Etchepareborde.

Burial will be a Portales Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales. Service are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Temple Church in Portales.

Sammy Sanchez, 47

Sideo Luis (Sammy) Sanchez, 47, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, as the result of a boating incident on Ute Lake.

Mr. Sanchez was born on Oct. 11, 1955, in Friona, Texas, to Nacha and Joe Sanchez.

He lived in Junction, Texas, until about 1989. For the next several years he lived in Clovis and Hobbs before coming to Portales in 1997.

He was employed at Davis Pump Company and enjoyed fishing and going to the lake with his friends.

Survivors include Mr. Sanchez’s children, Manuel and Valerie Sanchez of El Paso, Texas, Jacob Sanchez of San Angelo, Texas, Eric and Patti Salinas of Junction, Texas, and Crystal and David Barron of Waxahachie, Texas; eight grandsons, Isaiah, James, Mason, Ethan, E.J., Tristan, Ramsey and Brandon and a granddaughter, Rylee; his partner, Connie Montoya of Portales; his mother, Nacha Sanchez of Clovis; his father, Joe Sanchez of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four sisters, Minnie Sanchez and Olga Quintada of Clovis, Linda Sarapuro of New Orleans, La., and Rachel Sanchez of Pettus, Texas; six brothers, Joe Sanchez of Las Cruces, Robert Sanchez, Jaime Sanchez, Harvey Sanchez, Joel Sanchez and Rickey Sanchez of Clovis; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ernest Jaramillo will officiate the services.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary Chapel. Services are at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel.
