Mrs. Maxine Hobbs, 82, of Portales, died Saturday, May 31, 2003, at her home.

She was born on April 26, 1921, in Dutch Mills, Ark., to Cora and Robert Hodges.

She grew up in Dutch Mills. She graduated as valedictorian of her eighth-grade class. She married H.B. “Homer” Hobbs on Dec. 19, 1946, in Fayetteville, Ark. They moved to Lincoln, Ark., where they lived for four years before moving to New Mexico. They moved to Taiban in 1951 and then to Portales in 1954. Family members said she enjoyed raising a garden from which she would can and freeze produce every year. She also enjoyed making quilts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bud and Frank Hodges; and three sisters, Jimmie Briley, Monica Adair and Floy Hughes.

She is survived by her husband; a son, Jim Hobbs (and wife, Sue) of Midland, Texas; a daughter, Bobbie Victor (and husband, Bobby) of Dora; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margie Hobbs of Huntsville, Ark., Lindy Elkins of Fayetteville, Ark. and Bobbie Pinkerton of Dutch Mills, Ark.

Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.

Pallbearers will be Buster and Chance Tucker, Shane Hobbs, Rick Black and Rocky and Ryan Victor.

Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
