Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

South County News, June 25

Mother Nature was up to old tricks again last week in South County.

Arch, Causey and the Garrison-Richland areas were especially hit hard. Several farmers had sprinklers overturned and some destroyed. These were all on the irrigated fields. The Carmichaels saw a funnel in the air over the field just west of their home where all three tower sprinklers were destroyed on land just set up for irrigation.

Laverne Coffman in Causey said it was the worst storm she had ever seen in that area, lots of hail and wind.

Merle Corbin of Arch said she and Clifford came in from Lubbock after it was over and had glass, hail and water in their home.

Weldon and Mavis Carmichael said they had never seen a black turbulent cloud like the spied near Causey.

Most of the area got a good rain and that is something to be thankful for.

Ruby Parkinson said the worst of the clouds were all east of Milnesand, and as far as she knew, there was no hail in that area but was about 7/10 of an inch of rain.

Birthday

Faith Elizabeth Forrer of Dora will celebrate her 1st birthday on June 29th. She is the daughter of Amanda Forrer and the great-granddaughter of Henry and Deana Torrer also of Dora.
