Mr. S.L. “Tuney” Jackson Jr., 75, of Floyd, died Tuesday, May 20, 2003, at his home.

He was born on March 24, 1928, in Olton, Texas, to Betty and S.L. Jackson.

He attended school in Olton for several years. He graduated from high school in Carisa Springs, Texas, in 1945. He worked as a truck driver before enlisting in the Navy in 1946. After his discharge he worked as a cowboy for E.K. Warren and Son on the U Bar Ranches in West Texas and eastern New Mexico. He married Janell Slack on Feb. 10, 1951, in Elida. In 1956 they moved to Rogers where he was employed by Olin and Chleo Ainsworth until 1961. He served more than 20 years on the Rural Telephone Co-op Board and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9515.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Lester Jackson; and a sister, Velma Goyne.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Rex Jackson of Milnesand; two daughters, Sandra Long (and husband, Malcolm) and Sherrie Jackson, all of Albuquerque; two grandsons, Scott and Matthew Long; three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Megan and Jared Long; two brothers, Joe Don Jackson of Amarillo and Woody Jackson of Plano, Texas; and three sisters, Wilma Gallaway of Plainview, Texas, Sybol Henry of Amarillo and Betty Colletti of Enterprise, Fla.

Woody Jackson will officiate the services.

Pallbearers will be Rex Jackson, Malcolm, Scott and Matthew Long, Jim Beggs and Bill Greenlees.
