Save the last dance for Krystal

Even though she spent prom night in the intensive care unit of Covenant Hospital in Lubbock after a car crash, Krystal Allen will get to dance after all.

“It’s gonna be the whole works,” said Duffy Moon of Mix 107.5 FM radio, who is coordinating what he calls a “second chance prom” with community donations.

“The idea was Krystal and 15 of her girlfriends as well as their dates, giving them the whole experience,” Moon said. “We will send them out to dinner, we will have the same decorations as they would have had at the high school prom, the same theme ‘A Walk in the Clouds,’ snacks, a photographer, flowers for all the girls, and the hair and nails will be done for Krystal and we have a limo for Krystal.”

Krystal Allen’s mother, Kay Allen, said she has been overwhelmed by community support for the family.

“We can’t believe how this community has done everything it has done,” Allen said. “She just says, ‘They really do care, Mom!’”

Moon and Kay Allen said the location and date of the “second chance prom” will depend on Krystal Allen’s medical condition. According to her mother, Krystal spends most of her time in bed due to a broken leg and has severe headaches due to her skull fracture.

“Right now she is doing terrible,” said Kay Allen. “She wanted to get out to Wal-Mart but it was just too much.”
