  • Clovis man booked on sex charges

    STAFF REPORT CLOVIS — A Clovis man has been charged with sexual contact of a child. Milton Nunez-Romero, 42, was booked at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on Tuesday, according to an arrest affidavit obtained Wednesday. He remained there on a $10,000 cash-only bond for the charges of criminal sexual contact and battery. It was not immediately known if Nunez-Romero had an attorney. The affidavit states the victim, 12, was playing at her aunt’s house with a friend before Nunez-Romero assaulted her. The victim and rel... Full story

    STAFF REPORT PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico University choirs will soon be hosting an intimate event in a unique venue to help raise money for upcoming trips. According to ENMU Director of Choral Activities Jason Paulk, the choirs will be holding a dinner at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3 in the First Baptist Church fellowship hall, followed by a concert at 7 p.m. at the church’s worship center. The dinner, Paulk said, will be catered by chef Jude Uerling of Clovis, and will include airline chicken with Beurre Blanc, wild rice and mus...

    STAFF WRITERS Thanksgiving brings with it thanks for and memories of family time for Clovis and Portales residents. Clovis resident Cory and Breann Cupp said family gatherings were a fond Thanksgiving memory. “My favorite memory is when I actually used to live here,” said Cory Cupp. “Every Thanksgiving we used to go to my Aunt Rhonda’s and everybody used to be there.     On this date ... 1976: Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Franklin were going to be without a kitchen for Thanksgiving. A fire, likely caused by a malfunctioning water heater, resulted in about $8,000 worth of damage to their home east of Melrose. No one was home when the fire began. Mrs. Franklin was returning home about 2 p.m., found the kitchen ablaze, and drove into Melrose to notify the fire department.
