  • ENMU ROUNDUP: Hounds top UTPB in women's soccer, volleyball

Staff report PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico University women’s soccer team scored three goals over the final 25 minutes of the first half on Friday night, and it was just enough to hold off Texas-Permian Basin 3-2 in Lone Star Conference play at Greyhound Stadium. The winless Falcons (0-6-1, 0-3-0 LSC) outshot the Greyhounds 19-10 overall and 8-6 on goal, but their belated second-half rally fell short. Sophomore forward Mirka Zamarripa broke the ice just past the 20-minute mark for ENMU (3-4-1, 2-1-0), converting a sho... Full story

  • Hounds look to reclaim Wagon Wheel

Sports editor [email protected] The game is here, the teams are ready and only one will walk away with the prize. That prize of course is the coveted Wagon Wheel and the match up is between Eastern New Mexico and West Texas A&M. The Greyhounds (2-2, 2-1 LSC) will have their hands full today as they look to try and stop a high-powered Buffs (3-1, 2-0 LSC) offense that is averaging 287 yards though the air and just over 30 points a game. While the opponent is obvious concern number one, the importance of this game, even so...

  • Melrose Buffs Trample Dora Coyotes 60-6

    Matthew Asher

STAFF WRITER [email protected] DORA —If there were any doubts as to whether or not the defending state champions Melrose Buffaloes are still a contender for a title run, they answered it with a 60-6 win over the Dora Coyotes Friday to kick off 8-man district 4. Coming into the game, both Dora and Melrose lost to current No. 1 New Mexico 8-man program Gateway Christian, with the Buffaloes losing by 10 and the Coyotes losing by four. It looked like it would be a defensive battle as Dora (2-3) forced a fumble on M...

  • Rams coast to victory over Espanola Valley

    Matthew Asher

Staff writer [email protected] ESPANOLA — After Portales lost its Homecoming game to Dexter, the Rams needed a tune-up game before starting district play and that’s just what they got Friday night with a 52-0 mercy-rule win over the Espanola Sundevils. To call this a one-sided win would be an understatement, as Portales (5-1) imposed its will upon Espanola from start to finish as the Rams dominated in nearly every aspect of the game. After forcing Espanola (0-6) to a three-and-out to start the game, the Rams needed jus...
