PORTALES — A waterline break on Saturday afternoon caused "low pressure or no water" in Portales, city officials said. Portales City Manager Sammy Standefer said the break is on a line that has been problematic over the last few months, and the hope was to have water back to city residents by Sunday morning. PORTALES — A fire substation intended to increase public safety should be in Portales by 2019, according to city officials. City Manager Sammy Standefer said the city’s goal is to go to bid for the construction of the substation by the beginning of 2018, after which “we would assume it would take a year or so to complete the project.” The city applied in mid-August for a loan application of $1 million with the New Mexico Finance Authority to help pay for the roughly $1.3 million project, Standefer said. “Right now, we’ll wait...
The drought is over. For the first time in the 18-year history of the U.S. Drought Monitor Program, New Mexico is drought free. This time last year, the Drought Monitor Program showed that 87 percent of the state was experiencing drought conditions at some level.
