  • You can be happy too!

    Joan Clayton

Every day is a gift wrapped in God's love. His present to us is tied securely with ribbons of joy. What we find in our gift and how we use it is up to us. The choice is ours. We can see a beautiful sunrise and we can see beautiful sunsets. I like to see the twilight and the birds that settle down with a song. It seems God is putting nature to bed. I like to hear it all. There are so many things to see, to say and share with others. Time fleets at night or day. Today is the time to live, love, laugh and be happy. Everyone want...

  • My Turn - Cheap movies can be good

    Alisa Boswell

Some low budget films turn out to be really good movies, because they have a great story line and amazing acting. For example, "Fireproof" and "Courageous" are both lower budget Christian films with heart-wrenching synopses and good acting that will move a viewer to tears. They are sad but moving and family appropriate. Lower budget films you may want to stay away from, especially if you want family-appropriate movies, are probably those put out by the production company The Global Asylum. Many of their films entail graphic... Full story

  • You can't give away what you don't possess

    Kent McManigal column

Can you give me an actual living, breathing tyrannosaurus rex? No. Why not? Because you don't have one to give. You can't give away something you don't possess — especially if it doesn't exist. So how can you pretend to give government employees the authority to do things on your behalf that you never had the authority to do on your own? Things such as to forbid guns in some circumstances, some methods of carry, or to certain people. Or to kick in doors to get drugs. Or to require licenses for driving or conducting b...

  • Unpredictable weather reminder to stay safe

    Clovis Media Inc editorial board

High Plains residents should know the drill this time of year. The weather becomes infamously unpredictable, posing a threat to life and property. It happened yet again Tuesday night, across the Texas Panhandle, through Amarillo and to points east. If the twister that killed 24 in Moore, Okla., this month wasn't enough of a reminder, Tuesday's watches and warnings for our Panhandle neighbors should have done the trick. Because tornadoes can and do happen here. Eastern New Mexicans usually are spared such wrath, but we need...
