  • Area road work in monetary bind

    Eamon Scarbrough|Updated Mar 24, 2017

In order to accommodate local traffic, governments in Curry and Roosevelt counties have continuous high-cost improvements to make. But the money to make them is another story. “Ranching, farming, your dairies, your 9-1-1, your emergency calls, your first responders — it affects everybody. The (road) infrastructure is what gets everybody from place A to place B,” Roosevelt County Road Superintendent Ricky Lovato said of local roads. Out of 118 chipsealed roads in Roosevelt County, 90 miles are in need of new chipsealing or fo...

  • Intelligence, wisdom vastly different things

    Judy Brandon|Updated Mar 23, 2017

Big differences exist between intellectual knowledge and wisdom. We may be intellectually advanced and have a myriad of information but the difference in having intellectual knowledge and having wisdom is vast. I may be wise in some ways today, but that I was not so years ago and experience has played a part in that. And wouldn’t it be a great help if we all knew 20 years ago what we know today? Let me explain. Once I placed bids on some old lunch boxes that were on eBay. T...

  • What we say says a lot about what's in our hearts

    Curtis Shelburne|Updated Mar 23, 2017

I’d love to change email addresses to try to buy 30 seconds worth of a cleaner inbox, but my trusty ol’ address is emblazoned on everything from a few thousand music albums to business cards to new...
