TEXICO — Whether they played in it, watched a relative, coached or refereed in a former tournament, the Eastern Plains Athletic Conference basketball tournament has a way of bringing people back together. It even brought together former Clovis teammates, as the Texico High School sidelines got a little animated with former Wildcats Jonathan Langan and Logan Turnbow. The former got the best of the latter Wednesday, as Langan's Grady Bronchos eked out a 67-66 victory over T...

  • Forget resolutions; random kindness my style

    Betty Williamson|Updated Jan 4, 2018

It was a phrase reportedly born from doodlings on a restaurant placemat: “Practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty.” Writer Anne Herbert gets the credit. The place was Sausalito, California, in 1982. It must have caught on quickly, because it wasn’t long before I had a shirt with that emblazoned across the front. A decade later, the editors of Conari Press put together a collection of tips and stories called “Random Acts of Kindness,” and invited readers t...

The list of names, compiled annually by the Department of Health’s Bureau of Vital Records and Health Statistics, has featured Noah as the first- or second-most popular name for boys each year since 2014. The top of the girls' names list stayed consistent as well with Mia and Sophia maintaining the top two spots on the list again, though this is the first year Sophia overtook Mia...

Still, others were still digging out cash at the ticket gate. A few quarters in, it was evident that the fans weren't the only ones that either were or weren't ready for EPAC to start. The Tatum Coyotes were ready from the start, scoring t...

The exhibit was conceived and furnished by Scott Blazek, a retired minister and decades-long fan of the group. He said his appreciation first began almost 50 years ago, a...

In order to best improve the lives of the residents of Curry and Roosevelt counties, UWENM Director Erinn Burch said, her organization must focus on the young people who will eventually decide the future of both communities.
