    After 22 days, the Portales Fire Dept. announced this week that the Hampton Farms peanut mill fire is to a point where there is no need for fire personnel to be there on standby. The facility on US 70 towards Clovis started burning on April 15. Since then, smoke has remained present with 6 million pounds of peanuts continuing to burn inside the warehouses.     As of Tuesday a Clovis man was sentenced to nine and a half years in the Department of Corrections for aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, according to a press release from the Ninth Judicial District Attorney’s Office. According to the release Anthony Abeyta, 28, will be facing nine and half years consecutive to a six year sentence he received earlier this year for violating probation.     A Muleshoe woman died Wednesday night in a vehicle crash in Lamb County, Texas, near Amherst. Sherri Harrison, 57, was killed after her 2009 Toyota Camry collided with a truck near the intersection of U.S. 84 and Farm to Market Road 37, according to a report by the Texas Department of Public Safety.     Early numbers for enrollment are up this summer and this fall at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales. The news came from ENMU Chancellor and President James Johnston in a presentation to the university’s Board of Regents at their May regular meeting Friday.     Charges have been dismissed against the Clovis man who fatally shot a dog he said was “aggressively barking” at his dogs in November. Bradley Pearson, who lives in the 100 block of Zia Place, faced a fourth-degree felony charge, punishable by up to 18 months in jail and a $5,000 fine.     A Clovis man Thursday was found guilty of two counts of battery on a peace officer by a Curry County jury. Francisco Arzola, 46, was accused of punching one officer in the neck and scratching another officer as they attempted to serve a warrant against him in 2021.     The state Supreme Court Monday upheld the intentional child abuse conviction of a Carlsbad man for the death of his 8-year-old daughter, whose body he dumped in a trash can.     A district court judge on Friday issued a temporary restraining order preventing the New Mexico Public Education Department from enforcing its 180-day school rule, court records show.
