Obituary: Mary Lacrecia Rusk

July 18, 1932 - April 26, 2024

Mary Lacrecia Rusk was born on July 18, 1932, in Mississippi to Ray and Ozell Truitt and passed away from this life on April 26, 2024

Lacrecia married John Orley Rusk, Jr. on April 25, 1952 in Anthony, NM. After John graduated from New Mexico State University in 1953, he and Lacrecia moved to Clovis, NM. They had 3 boys, Audy, Eric and Frank. John moved Lacrecia out to the Rusk Ranch headquarters after John's mother passed away in 1962. From 1962, she became involved in the San Jon Community that she loved so much. She was a lifelong member of the San Jon Baptist Church. Not only was she a mother, housewife and ranch hand, she wore many different hats in the community. She was a school bus driver, a telephone/radio operator for all the neighboring ranches, a Sunday school arts and craft teacher, as well as a cheerleader for her community. Over the years, she fed hundreds of cowboys at brandings and all the San Jon community at various times. For years she worked at the New Mexico Department ofTourism-Glenrio Welcome Center where she retired. After her retirement, she continued to work weekends at County Crossroads Gift Shop in San Jon. She was also a coordinator for the USDA Commodities program and a member of the San Jon Senior Center. Above all her hats she wore, the best one that she held nearest to her heart was the one named Meme. Meme was one of a kind! She loved her family, but that didn't end with blood for her. She considered every person that she came across in the San Jon community from 1962 till her death her family.

Meme is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Gene, her husband John and her nephew Kim. She is survived by her sons, Eric Rusk, Frank and Karen Rusk; grandchildren Monica Rusk, Trey and Jodi Rusk, Sean and Sharla Rusk and Brent Rusk; great-grandchildren Ethan Drager and Maddox Drager.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 3, 2024. Viewing will be from 9-10 at Steed-Todd Funeral Home in Clovis, NM followed by a graveside service at Law Haven Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest. After the graveside service, there will be a community lunch at the San Jon Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the San Jon Baptist Church in memory of Lacrecia Rusk.
