Obituary: Maria Manuela Esquibel

January 1, 1939 - April 21, 2024

Maria Manuela Esquibel, age 85, of Clovis, NM passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024, at from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, at The Chapel, 1500 Thornton St., Clovis, NM with Rosary to follow at 5:00 pm. Mass of the Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 9:00 am at Sacred Heart Church, 921 N. Merriwether, Clovis, NM with Father Franklin Iwuagwu officiating. Burial will take place at Mission Garden of Memories, 2900 W 7th Street., Clovis, NM. Glenn Bass Jr., Justin Martin, Jarrod Martin, Damron Brooks, Jaren Brooks, Anastacio Esquibel, Richard Esquibel Jr., Malcolm Allen, and Khasiano Webb, will serve as pallbearers. Felicia Sena, Melissa Williams, Jennifer Guevara and Annette Esquibel will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mary was born on January 1, 1939, to Casino Martinez and Vicenta S. Sanchez in Anton Chico, NM. Mary married Abel Esquibel in Clovis, NM in May of 1956. Mary's faith carried her through all life's obstacles, keeping her strong and resilient along life's journey. Her angelic smile would lighten up any room. Mary enjoyed going to bingo at the Senior Center, going to senior dances, listening to Spanish music, participating in Senior Olympics, she was very active in the Senior Center and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Richard Esquibel of Clovis, NM, Jeanette Martin of Clovis, NM, Barbara (A.J.) Mineto of FL, Vivian (Johnny) Cortez of Albuquerque, NM, Abel (Julia) Esquibel Jr., of Roswell, NM, Tina (Ron) Kill of ND, Lisa (Richard) Doran of Clovis, NM, Patricia (Larry) Brooks of Albuquerque, NM, Rosalie Esquibel of Clovis, NM, and Christine (Robert) Webb of Clovis, NM; siblings: Pete (Aneda) Martinez of Los Lunas, NM, and Benito (Della) Martinez of Temple, TX; 25 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; and 15 great-great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Abel; parents: Casino and Vicenta; granddaughters: Guadalupe Esquibel, and Jacklyn Esquibel; great grandson, Miguel Esquibel; brother, Casey Martinez; and sister, Sylvia Vigil.
