ALBUQUERQUE - Whatever the weather, the small-school track meet endured during the weekend.

Through Saturday morning's events at the University of New Mexico, three state records were set at the meet - two of them by area athletes - in the meet for classes 1A, 2A and 3A.

A summary of Saturday afternoon events will appear in Wednesday's edition. The facility will host another state meet this weekend, this time for Classes 4A and 5A.

The new records were set by Jude Segura of Fort Sumner in the 1A javelin at 165-7, and Clovis Christian sophomore Lola Degroot took the 1A girls high jump at 5-3.

The following other events involved area athletes scoring points:

Discus: Fort Sumner senior Cory Terrell threw 128-04 to beat NMSD's Deven Thompson (125-0). The Foxes took four of the six scoring places, with Terrell joined by J.D. Candela (third, 117-08), Alex Moyer (fifth, 110-09) and Sammy Baltazar (sixth, 105-09). Robbie Clause of Texico won the 2A event, posting a 127-06 to top Clayton's Kobe Leal by more than seven feet.

Local athletes made up half of the scoring field in the girls' 1A event, with Olivia Lucero of Fort Sumner second (93-9), Nereyda Fait of Dora fourth (88-10), Avette Sanchez of Melrose fifth (82-7) and Dora's Tay-Leanna Urioste sixth (82-3). Logan's Harlie Roach won the event at 96-4.

Texico's Sydnee Muse was sixth in the girl's event. The sophomore threw an 83-6.

Shot put: freshman Paityn Nicholson of Melrose won the 1A event at 33-11.5. Melrose sophomore Caitlyn Nicholson was third at 33-1, and Dora's Fait fourth at 31-3.75.

1,600: Fort Sumner had two of the top six finishers in 1A girls, with Teghan Copeland second (5:52.52) and Samantha Cruckman fifth (6:05.78). Gateway Christian's Hannah Lilley won the event at 5:50.65.

Javelin: Fort Sumner took three of the top five spots in Class 1A, with Segura taking the crown. Terrell was second at 151-09 and Kane Burney fifth at 141-6. Fort Sumner's Megan Oberg was sixth in the girls event, throwing 96-4.

High jump: Fort Sumner sophomore Parker Lewis finished third as jumped 5-8, and fell to San Jon's Dustin Bryant in a jump off.

Pole vault: Texico's Gabe Dickerman was second in the 2A event, as he fell to Estancia's Brian Walker in a jump-off. Both reached 12-6. Fort Sumner's Kaycee Sultemeier finished fourth in the Saturday girls 1A finals, jumping 7-6 and falling to Estrella Griego of Mountainair in a jump-off.

Long jump: Randi Crandall of Dora finished fourth in the 1A event, jumping 15-4.
