Portales tennis teams win at Artesia

ARTESIA — It was another strong outing for Portales tennis on Tuesday, as the Rams made easy work of the Artesia Bulldogs, despite early weather conditions. Portales girls won in a sweep, 9-0, while the boys were nearly as impressive in a 7-2 rout.

On the girls side, Sarah Blaesar, Kinsey Bilberry, Timberlyn Neece, Zamorye Cox, Danielle Ruiz and Kelly Fraze were all singles winners, with the doubles tandems of Blaeser/Cox, Bilberry/Neece and Fraze/Ruiz all victorious, as well.

On the boys side, Zeke Aguirre, Julian Tellez, Tyler Underhill, Brett Horton and Drake Long all won in singles, while the doubles teams of Tellez/Aguirre and Horton/Long were also winners on Tuesday. As for Horton's singles match, it went down-to-the-wire, but he managed to pull it out, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5, impressing Rams coach Ann-marie Bucksath, in the process.

"It was a great day. It started with some early rain, but then the sun came out and our kids got real excited," Bucksath said. "Brett Horton had an amazing day. It went right to the end and he did great — I was real proud of him. The girls were also amazing — we switched around our doubles again."
