Men's fashion goes eccentric for spring season

It's always fun to talk about menswear fashion, especially when the latest runway shows featured some of the most eccentric looks of the season. This month, the Paris menswear fashion shows brought us looks from Louis Vuitton and Valentino, among many others.

There were male models in sweaters with spandex shorts and cowboy hats. On Jan. 18, designer Kim Jones sent his last showing down the runway for Louis Vuitton. His male models were decked in metallic logo leggings layered under sweat-shorts. These fun looks were paired with murses (man-purses), hiking boots and charm necklaces.

The Jan. 18 shows also featured men in pink and purple track pants and biker shorts. These looks were referred to as glam leisure which is appropriate considering the man handbags and charmed accessories. The biker shorts trend is one of my favorites. I think this is a trend anyone can pull off and if paired with a large tee. I predicted these shorts would come back in style several years ago before they showed up in women's fashion not too long after for those who dared.

Now, menswear designers are taking a shot at the trend. Some critics for the latest showings have referred to the looks as the freak factor. However, just as many critics are embracing some of the new trends. We’ve entered the era where glam is just as much for men as it is for women.

Other designers have other ideas for menswear month going back to thick and/ or baggy denims and white laces in sneakers. Casual wear designer Julien David featured some of these looks.

For the most part, fashion will be all over the place for a while. Some looks will be fun to try and some just flat out comical. Whether your menswear back to favorites are the casual minimalist or taken from the high glam, one trend that is sticking around for a while is 1990s baggy.
