Farwell boys open district play with comeback win

FARWELL — Jackson Jarman, Lee Roy Cervantes and Brandon Galvan combined to score 61 points, 78 percent of Farwell’s total, as the Steers rallied from a big early hole to wallop Sudan 78-51 in Friday’s district opener for both teams.

Farwell fell behind 10-0 to start the game, but battled back enough in the first quarter to trail only 12-9 by the end of it.

The Steers then rolled up 57 total points across the second and third quarters — 26 in the former, 31 in the latter — while allowing just 23 during that span, and were up by a comfortable 66-35 margin heading into the fourth.

“We started shooting the ball really well,” Farwell head coach Shane Perkins said. “And we started guarding. It always helps to guard people.”

Jarman finished with a team-high 22 points, including five treys.

Cervantes was next with 20 points, including three treys. Galvan added 19 points, hitting three times from beyond the arc.

Sudan’s Ruben Rodriguez scored a game-high 26.

Farwell (12-7 overall) will host Lockney on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Mountain time.
