Roosevelt to mull overdose drug

PORTALES — The Roosevelt County Commission, at its meeting at 9 a.m. today, will decide whether to adopt a program providing detainees at the Roosevelt County Detention Center with an overdose reversal drug upon their release.

According to documents provided for the meeting, the program would "establish a way of identifying detainees that may be considered high risk for opiate overdose and provide them with training, education and Naloxone upon release."

If approved, RCDC personnel and detainees will require training in the program, according to the documents.

Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, is used to block the effects of opioids and prevent overdoses.

Also at today's meeting at 9 a.m. in the Roosevelt County Courthouse, commissioners are slated to discuss:

• Consideration of an easement agreement with Midfirst Bank.

• A request of approval of asset disposal of the Roosevelt County's K-9 unit, including all items associated with the unit.

• Discussion of insurance premiums for 2018 and selection of deductible amounts.

• A request for approval of the county's 2018 capital outlay request list.

• A request for approval of facility agreement renewal with NUMI Financial for the card program at the Roosevelt County Detention Center.

• A request for approval of a master services agreement with Professional Document Services Inc.
