Buffs rout Hounds behind 22 from Evans

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University's men did a stellar defensive job on David Chavlovich, as the Lone Star Conference's leading scorer was held to 14 points for the second-lowest output of his season.

The problem is when you play the No. 8 team in Division II, you have plenty more scorers to worry about. The Buffs were instead paced by Jordan Evans, who notched 22 to lead five players in double figures in a 99-69 Lone Star Conference rout of the Greyhounds Saturday at Greyhound Arena.

Gaige Prim posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, and five players hit from long range on a 14-trey afternoon for the Buffs, who improved to 8-0 on the season and 2-0 on a Lone Star Conference trip that took them to both sides of the Land of Enchantment. West Texas claimed a 76-62 win on Thursday.

The teams played pretty even early on, with the Buffs taking the lead for good on a 3-point play to start a 10-2 run with eight minutes left in the half.

Jordan Collins notched two field goals in the final minute of the first half for a 50-39 WT lead, then five different Buffaloes notched points in a 13-6 run to open the second half and blow things open.

Eastern New Mexico, led by Lamarquis Thompson's 13 points, shot 41.3 percent on the game - respectable, but not enough on a day where the Buffs were nearly 54 percent from the field and 47 percent from beyond the arc.

Nick Brown added 12 and Arcaim Lallemand 11 for Eastern New Mexico, which begins a four-game road trip Thursday at Texas A&M-Commerce.
