Jury selected in cold case murder trial

CLOVIS — The week-long cold-case murder trial for William Hadix continues today with opening arguments, following jury selection Monday.

Hadix, 69, faces up to a life sentence plus 12 years in prison if convicted for the September 2003 slaying and robbery of Jessie Clyde “J.C.” Tucker in Clovis, said Deputy District Attorney Brian Stover.

As of Monday evening, the jury consisted of three men and 11 women, of which two persons will be randomly selected as alternates at the end of the trial, Stover said.

Hadix was arrested in September 2015 in eastern Illinois after investigators say a key witness came forward.

Tucker was found shot to death at Tucker Auto Sales and Tucker Self-Storage. His daughter, Jackie Davidson, said she never gave up on trying to find justice for her father. She said this month she was “ready to get this thing going and get it behind us.”

Hadix is represented by defense attorney Gary Mitchell. The trial is scheduled to last through Friday.
