1972: Democrat John Clemmons of Kenna announced the addition of two ranchers to the team aiding in his effort to be elected as state representative for District 63 (Curry, Roosevelt, Lea counties).

Charles Good was named as Clemmons' tri-county chairman treasurer, and Wendell Best was named to chair the Roosevelt County campaign.

Clemmons had previously selected Mrs. Virgil Hawkins of Melrose to head up his Curry County campaign.

1962: John R. "Jack" Hull was eulogized as "one of this city's most colorful pioneer residents" in a Clovis News-Journal article written about his death the day before.

Hull, who was born in Fort Worth in 1888, moved to Clovis when he was a young man. He and his father opened the town's first bank, Clovis National, and later purchased the Clovis News-Journal when the young Hull became a writer and editor.

He edited the newspaper for 17 years, known in a wide area for his daily column, "Ramblin' Around."

In 1941, he founded the Curry County Mounted Patrol "in which he found an outlet for his enthusiasm in western life and civic duty," according to the article.
