H.S. SOCCER: Clovis girls rout Lovington

LOVINGTON — A young Clovis High girls soccer team got its season off to a strong start on Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats didn’t score until the 12th minute, but by halftime they were up 6-0 and cruised to a 9-0 victory over Lovington. They peppered Lovington goalkeepers Angelica Murillo and Taylor Norton with 29 shots on goal.

“It was a good first game for us,” Lady Cats coach Traci Sievers said. “We still have girls getting used to playing with each other.”

Freshman Madison Lynch posted a hat trick and added one of seven assists for the Lady Cats. Six others added a goal apiece, with sophomores Aydan Everett, Sofia Rico and Kiyrha Lilly each posting a goal and an assist and sophomore Kasey Ayer adding two assists.

Lynch scored the first goal of the day, then was in on all three CHS tallies after halftime with an assist and two goals.

The Lady Cats return home for a 3 p.m. matchup against rival Hobbs on Saturday at Leon Williams Stadium.
