Summer lunch program starts this week

La Casa Family Health Center announced the location list for its summer lunch program this week.

La Casa sponsors the free Clovis/Portales Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) administered by the New Mexico Children, Youth and Families Department, Family Nutrition Bureau and the USDA.

"The program is designed to fill the gap during the summer months, for children ages 18 and under, who normally receive meals provided by their school," a La Casa press release read.

La Casa will be serving breakfast and lunch in both Clovis and Portales on weekdays, starting Tuesday through Aug. 4 at the following locations.

Clovis breakfast will be served 8:30-9:30 a.m. and lunch 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each day.

• The Children's Center

• Clovis High School

• Dennis Chavez Park

• Highland Park

• Hillcrest Park

• La Casita Elementary

Clovis lunch-only locations:

• Doc Stewart Pavilion

• Greene Acres Park

• Lions Park

• Patrick Sandoval Park

• Potter Park

• Rierson Park

• Sandia Elementary

• St. John's Baptist Church

• Sunrise

• Sunset Park

• The grill truck will be providing participants with hamburgers and hot dogs on Tuesday and Wednesday at Hillcrest Park (across from the Splash Pad) and on Thursday and Friday at Dennis Chavez Park.

Meals will also be served at various church and other youth sports camps throughout the summer.

La Casa will also be grilling hot dogs and hamburgers at two Clovis sites yet to be determined.

Portales breakfast will be served 8:30 -9:30 a.m. and lunch noon-1 p.m. each day.

La Casa Family Health Center will be the inclement weather site.

The grill truck will be at Portales High School on Tuesday and Wednesday, at Portales Junior High on Thursday and at Morrison Park on Friday.
