Portales' Karngbaye to play basketball at NMMI juco program next year

PORTALES — Portales High senior Jeremie Karngbaye signed an official letter of intent Wednesday to play basketball at New Mexico Military Institute's junior college for the 2017-18 season.

Leading the Rams to a 2017 Class 4A state title game, Karngbaye had several options as to where he could continue to play after graduation. After some time considering his options, the senior chose NMMI for several reasons.

"I liked the trainers and program," said Karngbaye. "I feel like it can get me to where I want to be."

With dreams of playing after his time at NMMI, the Portales big man realizes that by putting in his time at NMMI, it can open a lot of doors for him when the time comes to make his next decision.

"I see myself getting experienced and just learning my game, exploring it, then moving on after that. You go (to NMMI) and do what you're supposed to do, you can go to the next level," said Karngbaye.

Beyond his own experience and plans, the college has the added benefit of only being a short drive from his home town, providing the opportunity for friends and family to continue to watch the standout.

"That was a big part of it too; a lot of people can still come and watch me," said Karngbaye.

The Broncos finished 11-18 this season under second year head coach Ralph Davis.
