Curry commission clears way for Broadview station house

CLOVIS — During Wednesday’s special meeting the Curry County Commission cleared the way for a new Broadview Fire Department station house.

Davtek Corporation will construct the 60-by-100-foot, 6,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal building that officials said would carry a price tag of $432,773.33.

According to project specifications, the construction effort will include four apparatus bays, a new domestic well to provide water to a 10,000 gallon tank, infrared propane tube heaters, a multi-purpose room, unisex restroom and storage room.

“As you know, Broadview was given capitol outlay of $200,000 from the state (toward the project),” said Fire Marshal David Kube, who introduced discussion on the item. “Broadview Fire Department has $163,000 in the Fire Truck Fund and there has been a $20,000 pledge from Pattern Energy. The building Broadview wants to build is a 60-by-100 foot steel building, but they will more than likely also keep the old building. This will be a fire station built that will last 20, 30, 40, 50 years.” Officials said grant funding would assist in rounding out the balance of the project. Kube said three construction options were prepared by the Davtek, with the first project cost option being $432,773.33, followed by a pair of deductive alternatives totaling $388,474.18 and $344,060.50, respectively.

According the Kube, the first deductive alternative would entail a 60-by-80 foot, 4,800-square-foot structure, a multi-purpose room, unisex restroom and a storage room. There would also be three 20 by 60 foot apparatus bays.

He said the second deductive alternative would encompass a 60-by-60 foot, 3,600-square-foot building that would have the same layout as the first deductive alternative, save for two 20-by-60 apparatus bays instead of four.

In other meeting actions:

• After the special meeting the commission conducted a work session in which the progression of the Curry County Adult Detention Center renovation and addition was discussed. No action was taken during the work session as commission members and officials ASA Architects personnel exchanged ideas regarding scope of work and the continued direction of the effort.

• The Curry County courthouse renovation was also discussed during the work session.

“The courthouse renovation should be a top priority,” Commissioner Chet Spear said. “We have kept $4 million for the courthouse renovations and have to find a way to secure the building properly. We have a responsibility to ensure the safety and security of courthouse occupants.”

A series of options were surveyed by the commission and court personnel as a means of developing a course of action.
