Portales board amends resolution

PORTALES — The Portales Municipal Schools Board of Education held a special meeting Monday to amend a Nov. 14 resolution regarding the proclamation of the Feb. 7 school board election.

According to Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent Julie Miller, the original resolution was written only to include the votes of those citizens in districts where a board member was up for re-election — districts 3 and 4, filled respectively by Alan Garrett and Antonio Sanchez.

“Since we have the bond election and the mill levy election, everybody in town gets to vote. They had to make it where all districts could vote,” she said.

PMS will have a general obligation bond of $7.5 million and Senate Bill 9 up for approval in the election.

According to PMS Superintendent Johnnie Cain, the GO bond can be used for all of the district’s capital outlay needs, and SB9 would bring $506,000 to help with maintenance, school furniture and vehicle repair.
