County manager granted contract extension

Staff report

Curry County Manager Lance Pyle was granted an extension on his contract Tuesday by commissioners.

Pyle received no pay increase from the commission.

Pyle’s contract was set to expire Oct. 31, 2017. The new extension is for one year, making the expiration Oct. 31, 2018.

According to his contract, Pyle receives an annual salary of $114,726.77. Any salary increase, his contract states, is determined by the commission annually and is based on his job performance.

Pyle also receives expenses to cover the cost of meals, travel and “other business related expenses” and cannot exceed $5,000 in one year without prior commission approval.

Pyle is also awarded 30 days of annual paid vacation. If he so chooses to take a vacation, his contract states that he must remain in contact with county staff and commissioner chairman.

Pyle said every year the commission conducts an evaluation on his job performance “to determine how he is performing the duties and responsibilities set forth (in his contract),” and that the annual evaluation would occur in either March or April each year.

The commission extended his contract by one year per his request.

“I've done that every year since I've been manager,” Pyle said. “The county has several projects that we're currently working on, and I want to continue working for the county commission and serving the residence of Curry County and see those projects completed.”

Pyle began working for Curry County in 1998 and has served as county manager since Dec. 2007.
