Cooking timesavers on upcoming broadcasts

Information on time saving techniques for quilting and homestyle cooking will be the featured topics on "Creative Living" 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday.

Meryl Ann Butler is an author and quilter, and she's going to share time saving techniques for quilting based on the concepts in her book on making a quilt in 90 minutes. She'll also show several finished quilts made with these techniques. She lives in Norfolk, Va.

Extension Home Economist, Connie Moyers will demonstrate "Homestyle in a Hurry." She explains that homestyle means cooking like your mother or grandmother used to do, but with new shortcuts, it can be done much quicker and easier. She lives in Clovis.

Information on dimensional embroidery, using convenience foods and furniture refinishing and restoration will be the featured topics on "Creative Living" noon Tuesdayand 2 p.m. Saturday.

Linda McGehee, a sewing expert and author, will show how to do dimensional embroidery by machine. Her company is Ghee's, and she's from Shreveport, LA.

Roxanne Wyss, home economist with Williams Foods, Inc. in Lenexa, Kan., says that a gravy mix can be a mealtime solution, and she's going to share recipes to prove that point.

Lynn Hack-Gerhart is a furniture refinishing expert who represents a company called QRB Industries in Houston. Hack-Gerhart will show how to remove scratches and dents on furniture and also how to remove varnish and other finishes.

Peachy pork picante

  • 2 lbs. boneless pork, cut into 3/4-inch cubes
  • 2 Tbsp. taco seasoning mix
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 jar (16 ozs.) chunky picante sauce
  • 2/3 cup peach preserves
  • Hot cooked rice

Coat pork cubes with taco seasoning. Heat oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat; add pork and cook until brown, stirring occasionally.

Add picante sauce and preserves to skillet, lower heat.

Cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes. Serve with hot rice.

Makes 8 servings.
