Last time out: The Wolverines won their second District 4-2A game by a point in two nights, beating Tucumcari 49-48 at home after winning 64-63 at Santa Rosa on Friday. The Rams lost on Friday at Class 4A No. 1 Roswell High 80-58.

Last meeting: Jan. 25, the Rams edged the Wolverines 66-63 at Texico on a 3-pointer at the buzzer by senior F Reyes Calbert.

Of note: The Rams have gone 3-0 against Texico over the past two seasons, but the total margin has been 10 points and two of the wins were at the buzzer. … PHS enters the week ranked No. 5 in the Maxpreps.com Class 3A poll, while Texico is fifth in Class 2A. … The Rams have five regular-season games left after tonight, including four in District 4-3A. They visit Ruidoso on Friday to start district play. … Junior F Miguel Reyna is averaging 21.8 ppg for the Wolverines.

Last time out: The Lady Wolverines beat Tucumcari 58-33 at home on Saturday. The Lady Rams were 35-29 winners over Roswell Goddard at the RAC on Thursday.

Last meeting: Jan. 25, Portales thumped the Lady Wolverines 45-24 at Texico.

Of note: The Lady Wolverines, currently ranked No. 1 in Class 2A, are the defending 2A state champions and have won their classification in four of the last six seasons. … The Lady Rams enter the week ranked fifth in Class 3A. … Texico struggled a bit after losing 6-foot-2 senior P Shaylee Anderson to a season-ending knee injury in mid-December, but seems to have righted the ship with eight wins in its last 10 games. The Lady Wolverines' only losses in that stretch were against Portales and Class 1A No. 1 Tatum, a 45-41 decision in the finals of the EPAC tournament.
