My Turn - Privileged handful in history get to fly

We were flying home from a business trip. I was tired from the busy week, my head was bobbing, and I closed my eyes to take a short nap on the hour-long flight to Albuquerque.

The winter clouds made a soft blanket of white over the landscape, with only occasional holes to look down through.

One of those cloud breaks revealed a portion of the Grand Canyon, and my husband commented on it, pulling me back from my almost-slumber.

It struck me that it was just ridiculous to be so nonchalant about flying over one of the wonders of the world.

At the conference we'd just attended, I was reminded that my Baby Boomer generation was the wealthiest generation ever. Period.

And so I began to marvel about my generation, and the ease with which we get on airplanes and fly about this land.

A very tiny, very privileged handful of humans from our earth has had the opportunity to look down upon the landscape of our globe from their own little window. And although the clouds weren't majestic on this day, and the view of the amazing topography below wasn't the best I'd ever encountered, I kept my eyes open for the remainder of the flight just taking it in.
