Deputy charged with battery placed on leave

A Roosevelt County Sheriff's deputy charged with misdemeanor battery of a household member has been placed on paid administrative leave, according to Chief Deputy Malin Parker.

Brian Encinias, 33, was arrested Saturday by Clovis police and charged for an incident in December.

"He was placed on leave the day that we heard that he was under investigation for this arrest," Parker said.

Parker said he has no idea on how long Encinias will be on paid leave.

According to an affidavit filed in Magistrate Court in Clovis for Encinias' arrest, the incident took place on Dec. 29. It was reported by the victim that Encinias pulled her out of the vehicle, causing her to fall to the ground.

Police said the victim's injuries were consistent with her story.

Encinias was booked and released Saturday from the Curry County Detention Center after posting $1,000 bond.
