Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary

The Nov. 21 executive committee meeting of the Roosevelt General Hospital Auxiliary was opened with president Linda Uttaro giving the prayer.

Hospital liaison Amber Hamilton introduced Carol Dickenson, who will handle credit card purchases. Hamilton is now in charge of marketing and hospitality. Hospitality will be filling the new position. Preference is for a licensed dietitian to improve the food in the cafeteria.

Cafeteria service closes at 6 p.m. Patrons can be served with refrigerated machines in the cafeteria at all hours. Mrs. Hamilton requested $300 to purchase a commercial grade microwave to replace the machines.

Dr. Erica Garcia received a grant to start a Well Child Check-up program. There will be a reading corner for children who can be given a new book to keep or take back and exchange. Volunteers are needed to read stories to the children. Special thanks to Quality Sales for donating a table to the Auxiliary.

Next meeting will be Jan. 16, 2013.

The Altrusa of Portales

The Altrusa International, Inc. Club of Portales met on Nov. 26 at the Central Annex. President Nellie Dyer called the meeting to order. The minutes were approved. Secret pals were thanked and a letter from Jo Nell Brooks was passed around. Dannah Brown reported that 62 tables had been sold for Holiday Happening and asked for additional help at the event.

Linda Leaming announced that the next board meeting will be on Dec. 3. A RIF party is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec.10 at Valencia Elementary School and the club's Christmas party will be at 6 p.m. at Sharon Davis' home on the 10th. The club voted to nominate Joyce Davis for Outstanding Citizen.

Lory Adams introduced Melissa Hardin who talked about a program called First Steps Toward Reunification. The club voted to donate $250 to the program. Hardin received a Certificate of Appreciation from the club.
