The Cannon Spouse's Club hosted a charity auction at the Landing Zone at Cannon Air Force Base. The club raised funds for local charities and scholarships for members of Cannon and the local communities.

The club hoped to raise funds for local charities and scholarships for members of Cannon and the local communities.

"This was the first event our club has hosted like this in recent history, we were extremely successful and have already been asked whether we'd do it annually," said Paula Zunno, Cannon Spouse's Club member. "I had a blast helping coordinate this auction. It was great to receive such positive feedback and so much assistance from squadrons on base."

Despite this year's goal being set at $4,500, the spouse's club was able to raise more than $12,000. According to Zunno, 10 percent of those earnings will be donated toward the 2012 Combined Federal Campaign.

Various baskets and home décor items were auctioned off by this year's auctioneer, Col. Dave Piech, 27th Special Operations Mission Support Group commander.

"We had many baskets come from the squadrons," Zunno added. "They disclosed the retail value of the baskets and we started the bidding around that price."

One of the beverage baskets available, retailed at $1,200, was sold to a group of bidders and raised $2,800.

"We just want to express our deepest gratitude for all contributors and supporters; our auction could not have succeeded without all their kindness and generosity," Zunno stated. "This event showed me that rank doesn't matter when it comes to goodwill. People will always come together to achieve a common goal. It's just so nice to see how much goodness is still in people's hearts."
