Clovis fireworks rescheduled for Friday

Officials have rescheduled the community's annual fireworks show for tonight.

Rain — 1.23 inches, according to the KVII-TV weather station — and high winds forced postponement on Wednesday.

Radio personality Duffy Moon said today's show at Greene Acres Park will begin at dark, around 8:45 p.m. or 9 p.m.

According to National Weather Service meteorologist Christopher Luckett, tonight's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with no chances of rain and an overnight low of 65 degrees.

Portales' annual fireworks were also postponed because of the rain, wind and lightning. They have been rescheduled for Saturday.

City police will close Main Street downtown at 5 p.m. and sections of 21st and Commerce streets will close at 6 p.m., officials said.

Due to the postponement, the event will only include the fireworks display. There will be no live entertainment or vendors.

If rain or wind interferes again, another date will be scheduled.

Moon said there will not be any added expense to the event beyond services provided by city workers.

CATS buses will provide transportation from the mall and the Clovis High School from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Friday evening for members of the public wishing to attend the event, according to a press release from the Clovis Chamber of Commerce.

In the case of more inclement weather, the fireworks display will be postponed for later in the year in conjunction with another community event, the release said.
