Brief rainfall grazes region

The Portales and Clovis area received spotty rain Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service has reports of two-tenths of an inch of rain 6 miles southeast of Portales and one-tenth of an inch 3 miles north-northwest of Texico, NWS Hydronet technician Maxine Pacheco said.

No other sites in Roosevelt, Curry or Quay counties reported precipitation.

The last time Portales received rain was March 4, when 0.01 inch fell, according to the National Weather Service website. Clovis last received precipitation April 7, with 0.01 inch, according to the site.

NWS meteorologist Jennifer Palucki said chances of more rain are low for the next seven to 10 days.

Palucki said there’s an outside chance of rain early Sunday morning, but it will probably stay north of Clovis. The area might see precipitation Tuesday, she said, but it will most likely stay to the east of the Portales/Clovis area.

The climate outlook for May is below-normal precipitation and above-normal temperatures, Palucki said. She said the three-month climate outlook forecasts equal chances of the area getting or not getting rain.
