Hounds 17th in regional cross country

SAN ANTONIO — The Eastern New Mexico University men’s cross country team placed 17th out of 22 teams Saturday in the NCAA Division II South Central Region championships, hosted by Incarnate Word.

Junior Gilbert Manzanares led the Greyhounds, placing 79th overall in a time of 34 minutes, 22.1 seconds over 10 kilometers, while junior Derek Henio came in 86th in 34:31.1. Both were season-best times.

Abilene Christian rolled to the team title with 31 points, taking the top four individual spots. ENMU finished with a team score of 473.

ENMU did not take a women’s team. Missouri Southern won the women’s title with 88 points to 94 for Midwestern State, while Abilene Christian’s Winrose Katunda took individual honors with a time of 20:46.4 over six kilometers.
