Education retirees to meet

The Roosevelt County Association of Education Retirees will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the cafeteria conference room at Roosevelt General Hospital. Several members will be reporting on the State Convention for Education Retirees. Delman Shirley will speak about legislative decisions.

County to receive additional funds

Roosevelt County will receive an estimated $9,092 in additional payment in lieu of taxes funds, according to a news release.

Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., announced Friday that legislation signed earlier this month fully funds PILT for the next five years. PILT is initiative that pays counties for federal lands within their borders that cannot be made part of the tax base.

In June, PILT funding was announced, including $15,247 for Roosevelt County.

Curry County is the only county in New Mexico that does not receive PILT funds because it has no eligible land.
