Northcutt selected to all-tourney team

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University freshman guard Tori Northcutt was chosen to the all-tournament team in the Fort Lewis round-robin over the weekend.

Northcutt, a 2007 Clovis High grad, averaged 10 1/2 points in the two games while dishing out nine assists. The Zias opened the season with losses to host Fort Lewis 78-64 on Thursday and to Dixie State 81-76 on Friday in the three-team event.

ENMU squads open their home schedule tonight against New Mexico Highlands at Greyhound Arena. The women’s game tips off at 5:30 p.m. with the men’s contest scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Time change — ENMU has announced a time change for a Lone Star Conference crossover doubleheader against Texas A&M-Commerce on Dec. 1 at Greyhound Arena.

The games, originally set for 5 and 7 p.m., have been moved to 2 (women) and 4 p.m. (men) starts.

Notes: The Cowboys dropped their opener at home to Oklahoma Panhandle State 89-64 on Thursday, then lost to Grand Canyon (Ariz.) 91-48 on Saturday in the first half of a doubleheader at Laguna-Acoma H.S. In the second half of that twin bill, ENMU earned its first win of the season by downing Western New Mexico 78-72. … The Greyhounds lost their season opener on Thursday at 23rd-ranked Emporia State (Kan.) 89-73. … ENMU swept the Cowboys last season, winning 81-71 at Portales and 90-63 at Las Vegas, N.M. Highlands finished 4-25 last season, including 4-15 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. … Through two games, 6-8 junior P Elvis Parks is averaging 10.5 ppg for the Cowboys, while 6-4 senior G Stephen Shanks is scoring 10 per game and averaging 8.5 rebounds. …… NMHU is shooting 35 percent from the field so far, including 5-of-28 from 3-point range.

Notes: The Cowgirls lost at home to OPSU 68-51 on Thursday. Their only double-figure scorer was 5-9 sophomore G Jessica Armijo, who finished with 12 points. She struggled from the field, though, going 3-for-18, including 3-of-15 on 3-pointers. Highlands shot just 28 percent for the game, going 6-of-32 from beyond the arc. The Cowgirls were outrebounded by OPSU 51-36. … The Zias lost twice in the Fort Lewis round-robin at Durango, Colo., losing to the host Skyhawks 78-64 and to Dixie State (Utah) 81-76. … ENMU swept the Cowgirls last year, winning 74-50 in Portales and 76-57 in Las Vegas.
