Report: Robberies rise 30 percent

Violent felony crimes in Clovis dropped by about 10 percent in 2006, according to the Clovis Police Department’s annual report.

However, robberies increased almost 30 percent and property crimes by about 17 percent in 2006, the statistics showed.

Violent crimes include homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault. Property crimes are typically classified as burglary, larceny and theft, and motor vehicle theft.

In the first six months of 2006, violent crimes at the national level rose 4 percent, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s preliminary Uniform Crime Report released in June.

Homicide in Clovis rose from two in 2005 to three in 2006. Burglaries, thefts and larceny also rose slightly, while rape, aggravated assault, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts declined, the report showed.
