Police accuse Clovis man of sexual contact with teen

A 49-year-old Clovis man accused of having sexual contact with a 13-year-old boy was arrested Thursday, according to police.

Paul Bergman was charged with four counts of criminal sexual penetration of a minor, three counts of sexual contact of a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Bergman is being held at the Curry County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.

Police seized a computer and other items Thursday from Bergman’s residence at 611 East 6th St. during the execution of a search warrant, according to a Clovis Police Department press release.

According to an arrest affidavit filed Thursday in Magistrate Court, Bergman gave the youth bicycles, video games and money over a two-year period. The victim told police Bergman would pay him to mow the lawn and would encourage him to swim in his pool, hang out at his house and spend the night, court documents show.

The boy’s mother told police she caught her son performing oral sex acts on another boy, court documents show. He told her Bergman had been teaching him how to perform oral sex.

In an interview Monday with police, the district attorney’s office and a victims’ advocate, the youth detailed incidents where he said Bergman performed oral sex on him, telling him it was “normal for people to do,” documents show. He also told police Bergman showed him pornographic magazines and computer images of people engaging in intercourse.

Lt. Jim Schoeffel of the Clovis Police Department said Thursday Bergman’s residence was a known hangout spot for neighborhood kids, and it is possible more victims may come forward.

Telephone calls to Bergman’s home were not returned on Thursday.

Police have asked that anyone with information to contact Detective Antonio Bosque at 763-9426.
