  • Commentary: Rangers are a habit hard to break

Jon Mark Beilue, Sports columnist|Updated May 9, 2023

As a boy in the 1970s whose dad would put him on a tractor around 8 a.m. on a long summer day and often not get him off until a 9 p.m. sunset, a tractor radio broke up the monotony. It was a godsend. Even then, the Starland Vocal Band and Seals and Crofts began to wane as the day wore on in the Texas Panhandle. Just get me to 7:15. Not only did it start to cool by then and the end of the day was in sight, but the Texas Rangers pregame show would come on KGNC in Amarillo. At...

Everybody is chasing Rio Rancho Cleveland, the six-time defending 5A champion and winner in nine of the last 10 state meets, Wildcats coach Mark Sena said. “Cleveland is probably the favorite going away,” Sena said as the Cats, who have never won a state team title, gear up for Friday and Saturday...

The eighth-seeded Hounds (23-28), making just their fifth appearance in the LSC tourney and first since 2018, lost Friday’s open...

A cadre of four-legged teachers named Bart, Newbie, Shag, Target, Smudge, Goober, Patches, Lil, and Cricket are on the hunt for some new students. But there are some catches. To begin with, eight of them are a mix of horses and horse/pony crosses. The ninth – Cricket – is pure pony. The lessons they are ready to teach won't take place in a saddle. And it's free. Allow me to introduce the residents of Abrazos Adventure, the business that since 1999 provided countless folks in...

  • Opinion: Harris needs persuasive argument

    Elwood Watson, Syndicated content|Updated May 9, 2023

In the campaign commercial President Joe Biden released to announce his re-election campaign, there was one individual who was prominently displayed – Kamala Harris. Since the moment Biden selected her as his running mate in July 2020, there has been no shortage of commentary about Harris and her role as vice president. No honest person can dismiss the fact that being a woman of color has been a political handicap for her. As a woman of color and a biracial one at that, Harris...

  • Opinion: Bigger issues at hand than Bidens

    Michael Reagan, Syndicated content|Updated May 9, 2023

Haven’t we seen this never-ending story before? It’s just that the politics have flipped. When we had Democrats in power in the House, all we heard were bad stories about Donald Trump. All we heard from Democrats and their parrots in the major media was how Trump supposedly broke a bunch of laws and should be impeached, imprisoned or hanged for things like colluding with the Russians, dodging his taxes and golfing too much. One by one, those fake stories would fizzle out and n...

    ENMU|Updated May 9, 2023

Editor’s note: The following essay was co-written by a student in Erik Stanley’s anthropological writing class at Eastern New Mexico University. Throughout recent history, consumers have supported businesses that align with their beliefs. Many have gone as far as boycotting businesses that do not support their views.
