  • Faith: Questions of faith, prayer, healing well above my pay grade

    Curtis Shelburne, Religion columnist|Updated Mar 1, 2022

Do faith healers have specialties? Doctors do, of course. I’d not be surprised to find an LDP specialist available should you need a Left Distal Phalange doctor for your port side little toe. Not that long ago, I could have used an RDP specialist for my fractured RDP, but my very excellent primary care/GP/family medicine physician and friend), since retired, was more than able to deal deftly with both left and right distal phalanges and anything else from head top to toe b...

That changes this week with the opening of the Broadway musical version of Louisa May Alcott's beloved classic, "Little Women." "The rehearsal...

  • Opinion: Invasion disturbing for democracy

    Tom McDonald, Syndicated content|Updated Mar 1, 2022

Who would’ve thought that the Soviet Union would rise from the ashes and re-establish itself in Eastern Europe once again? It’s now clear that is exactly what Russia President Vladimir Putin wants to do. He has reportedly said the Soviet Union’s fall was “the biggest geopolitical catastrophe of the (20th) century” and his actions are speaking louder than his words. So far, he has invaded the former Soviet “possessions” of Georgia in 2008, Crimea in 2014, and Ukraine in 2022. It’s an opportune time for his ambitious expan...

  • Opinion: Hoping economic punishment will cut short war

Los Angeles Times, Syndicated content|Updated Mar 1, 2022

The most conspicuous victims of Russia’s unprovoked invasion of Ukraine are the people who will lose their lives in defending their country against a brutal (and nuclear-armed) neighbor. But Vladimir Putin’s decision to launch a many-pronged attack — an audacious operation the United States predicted but was unable to prevent — is also a devastating assault on international norms and potentially a harbinger of a wider war in Europe. Last week’s attack fully justifies the significant sanctions the U.S. and its allies ar...

  • Opinion: War is yet another government lie

    Kent McManigal, Local columnist|Updated Mar 1, 2022

Whenever a government wants to go to war, you can be sure it is lying -- to its population and to anyone who listens to its justifications. If anyone supports a war, they have been hoodwinked by the lies. Without lies, no ethical person would ever support war. The aggressor has to lie and present itself as the victim. Otherwise, its cannon fodder would be less enthusiastic to die for the government’s agenda. Unfortunately, the victim populations’ government will lie, too. It...

  • A story of love, two Daisies and a Jeep

    Tina Dziuk, Guest columnist|Updated Mar 1, 2022

March 14 will be the five-year anniversary of the tragic plane crash that took the lives of three airmen from Cannon Air Force Base. I didn’t know them, but I do have something tangible that serves as a reminder of that day. Shortly after the accident, I became the owner of the vehicle that belonged to the youngest victim, 1st Lt. Frederick (Drew) Dellecker. The first time I saw his 2016 Jeep Rubicon, it was pointed out to me that he had waxed it so much you could still see some of the white residue. I was filled with s...
