  • Walk This Way (July 10)

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, with a flip of a switch, it happened -- $3.09 became $3.29 for a gallon of gas. This did not seem to happen one station at a time, but rather all at once, and all over town. Maybe I did not see it correctly, but by 10:10, five stations that I drove by were all $3.29. I used to think the tanker came to the gas station, refilled the station, and then the price changed. Maybe that was from too many years of living in smaller communities than this. I had given up long ago reading the news on reasons why gas... Full story

  • Walk This Way (July 6)

Often on the Atlantic City Expressway outside of Philadelphia there sat a police car. For a good year or so, I always suspected it was there to slow speeders down. One day I had a flat tire near where the car was supposedly watching for speeders. I say supposedly because at that point I found out the car was empty. It was only being used as a deterrent. If there is one thing I've noticed since I have moved to Clovis, it is that there are a lot of police cars in town. You really cannot drive for more than five minutes... Full story

  • Walk This Way (July 5)

For the amount of rain we received last night, I would not have bet it would have been localized. But I am hearing people outside of town did not get any rain last night. I, however, did receive rain where I live: 2 1/2 hours of pouring rain, the longest rain storm since I moved here. Even though the city fireworks show was canceled Wednesday night, I would be willing to bet a very high percentage of people would be alright with the fact it was canceled for the reason that it...

Yes, Arrowsmith is in town. And no, my apologies, but not that Aerosmith. My wife was once asked if she were married to Steven Tyler, to which she answered "Would that not make my last name Tyler?" We come from a land where the jobs are plentiful and the economy strong. The unemployment rate is below 1 percent. A 25-year sales tax to cover the building of a new law enforcement building was called off after five years because the money had already been raised. We come from a to... Full story

  • Walk This Way

Robert Arrowsmith On Saturday, I attended a luncheon with several of our troops from Cannon Air Force Base. It turned out to be a combination luncheon and also a birthday party for several of them. This was the first time since I have moved here that I had been able to spend an extended amount of time with members of our military from here, and one thought came to mind almost immediately. That thought was innocence. The innocence of these young men, all 25 or younger, was eye...
